In this high-paced business world, sometimes we are so busy working in our business, that we forget that we need to work on our business too.

There are many factors, but here are some examples of what we mean:-

  • The 'image' or 'look' of the site should match with your corporate brand. That is, it should not only be an extension of your business cards, logos, letterheads etc., but it should also help 'position' you in the mind of the potential consumer.

  • Site functionality should match with your customers' needs. If your customer needs to touch and feel your product before purchasing, then trying to sell to them online would be waste of effort. It might be more beneficial to encourage them to therefore visit a retail outlet.

  • Your 'content' should be geared towards the type of customer you are targeting, whether that is by location or other physical factor, such as age etc. (demographics), or some other particular factors that helps you identify your target client. (this is a big area, that most web-designers miss).

  • Your offering should be structured so as to lead them towards specific action points. Eg pick up the phone, get more information, provide additional information to you, download a brochure, visit a store, make an online purchase etc.

As you can see, there's a lot to be considered, most of which has nothing to do with the technical aspects of a website. Remember, many customers will make decisions about your business in the first 30 seconds. If you 'miss the mark', it can cost you a lot more than you realise.
