| What is a website? | |
![]() | To answer that simply, let’s imagine a simple example. Think of the internet as the transmission towers that send a signal to your TV set, and imagine that your website is that TV. The web-site platform is the TV station that your TV is tuned to, and the content you are viewing is the actual show that you are watching. (OK, I did say it was a simple analogy). |
| Why is a Web Page better than other advertising? | |
![]() | Having a web site is one of the cheapest forms of advertising you can buy, and yet it is also one of the best. The benefits of a web page are that it can: · Contain multiple pages of information · Include pictures, diagrams and maps - in colour of course · Contain separate pages for different products · Be updated easily - even daily or weekly if needed · Include message forms to make it easier for customers to contact you by email · Be found easily using common search engines · Be seen by anyone around the world who is connected to the WWW, 24 hours a day |
| Where do we start in developing a website? | |
![]() | One thing that your potential customers might want is for you to find ways to make your site relevant and current for today. Another is making sure you’ve covered all the usual areas that clients want to know about. This might include policies and procedures, warranty or returns information, where you are how to buy etc. We suggest putting together a plan of how your website is to be relevant to your customer, and how your website helps meet your business needs. If we haven’t already taken you through this process, contact us to see how we might benefit your business. |
| What are the steps involved in creating a web site? | |

| Do you do offer 'lost-cost' or 'free' services? | |
![]() | Excellent Question. I'm sure you've seen all the advertising that says "Cheap Hosting, Cheap Set-up, free this, that and the other". So have we.
Of course, if you've been in business for more than 10 minutes, you'll know that these are really just 'Loss Leaders', a common tactic used to 'get you in', and then require you to spend additional money to create the solution you really want, whilst wasting your valuable time. We take a slightly different approach. We start out with the goal of what you want to acheve, and then tailor a low-cost solution that includes all the elements necessary to achieve that goal. There's nothing more important than creating communication and understanding. And we do it in a simple way. First, we come to you. "What?" Yes, we come to you and find out what you want to do. We remember who the customer is. You. Next we agree on a plan to meet your goals. And then we put together a tailor-made (but cost effective) solution, based on a fixed fee. No 'hidden' surprises. |
| How can I reduce the time taken to get 'live'? | |
![]() | Very Simply: Be Prepared. Have files with the text you want on the page, have a good idea of what the graphics ought to look like, and know what feel you are looking for. The less we have to retrace our steps because of a changed idea on your part, the less time it will take. |
| What is the payment schedule? | |
![]() | An initial payment of one-half of the total cost of the proposal is required upon contracting with us,with the remainder due upon completion of the web site. We can take various forms of payments, including credit cards. |
| Do you do web-hosting? | |
![]() | Yes. Our package of design and construction will also include a component that allows for web-hosting for an agreed period. After that, you can choose to pay for hosting on a month-by-month basis, or a discounted annual fee. We'll arrange this with you either as a pre-pay, or automatic direct debit from a variety of bank accounts or credit cards. |
| Who owns my website domain name? | |
![]() | This should be one of your first questions to anyone assisting you in developing a web-strategy. Domain names can't be purchased; they are sold as a 'licence', (generally 2 years in Australia). If we register a website domain name, we do so in the belief that it is yours. We don't engage in the shoddy practice of registering your domain name for ourselves; you own the licence to your domain name. |
| Who owns the copyrights? | |
![]() | Upon the final payment of the account, the copyright ownership passes to you. Make sure you ask this question of all Web Designers, as by law, the copyright remains with the Designer by default. Many will charge extra to transfer copyright ownership of your site. When you take ownership of your site, we also pass over the right to modify the software (as per the GNU/GPL licence). |
| How will I monitor design work progress? | |
![]() | Before you commit to us, we provide an implementation plan overview to suit your timeframe. Initial construction will allow you to view the site and design work in progress (ozsmebusiness.com.au/~yourdomain). When we start work on the construction process, the public will see a temporary page with your logo, and email functionality is also activated. We'll also put forward a number of design ideas for the look of the site. The design work is sent to you in PDF for approval. You will also receive E-mail updates detailing the major milestone changes, as well as PDF's. |
| How will I receive my web site once it's completed? | |
![]() | Once you approve the final design work, we will upload the design style to your site. Once uploaded, we will thoroughly test your web site's HTML, Links, browser compatability and dynamic content to ensure everything is working properly, before making it live to the public. We'll also provide a backup copy of the final structure on CD. |
| What if we need extra pages, articles or content? | |
![]() | All of our sites are constructed so as be fully expandable. You can have an unlimited number of articles, categories, sections and pages. If your needs (or website traffic) increase significantly, we'll recommend upgrading the hosting to a more suitable size, which can be done almost'on-the-spot. If you want additional functionality, please read on. |
| What if we need new features, statistical analysis and Updates/Amendments? | |
![]() | Many companies recognise that their businesses may not function in the same way on the Internet and are actively learning the new techniques necessary to succeed. They keep their web sites in a constant state of change, closely monitoring visitors reactions and making amendments accordingly. In this way they are constantly refocusing their businesses towards customer needs. OZsmeBusiness offers an on-going maintenance program and can provide you with sophisticated statistical analysis that will help you develop your web site effectively. |
| I need to be well ranked in Google/ Yahoo etc. Can you help? | |
![]() | Getting a better search engine ranking requires additonal work after the site is turned on. Its also important to note that a good ranking is subject to a number of criteria including (but not limited to) the:- We will put together a proposal to complete the full search engine submission, ranking and montioring steps, ussually after we've turned your site on. |
| Can I have lots of animations on my site? | |
![]() | There are all sorts of great and fun gimmicks to build into a web site. Sometimes they are relevant but mostly used to please the Web Designer trying to demonstrate that he or she "Can Do" this stuff! But in most cases a simple, fast loading, clear and easy to navigate sites makes more business. |
| What if I decide to cancel a design job? | |
![]() | We only charge you for what work has been done (minimum 50% of total costs). |
